A 19-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man has been sentenced to six years in prison and banned from driving for 10 years after an impaired driving crash that killed a 15-year-old and injured another in April 2025.
Greg Parise was driving a truck on April 20, 2025, when he struck two 15-year-olds, killing Connor Dunn, a young local athlete whose death prompted an outpouring of community support.
In delivering the sentence Monday, Justice Sandra Caponecchia considered Parise’s age, Indigenous background and the effects of intergenerational trauma, along with the devastating impact of the loss on Dunn’s family.
Following the sentencing, the Dunn family released a statement emphasizing that no outcome could bring Connor back. They remembered him as a compassionate, generous and outgoing teenager who made others feel welcome and included.
The family said they hoped Connor would be remembered for his kindness, laughter and the positive influence he had on those around him, despite his life being cut tragically short.
They also expressed gratitude for the community’s support and asked that their privacy continue to be respected as they grieve.
