A man was hospitalized after a house fire broke out in the south end of Ottawa on a hot summer day, as reported by Ottawa paramedics.
According to Ottawa Fire Services, multiple 911 calls were made around 5 p.m. on Saturday, reporting heavy black smoke and flames coming from the rear of a home on Claymor Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed visible flames coming from the back porch and quickly declared a working fire, which led to additional resources being dispatched.
Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive attack, using hoses and conducting two thorough searches of the house, confirming no one was trapped. The fire was under control by 5:27 p.m.
An adult male in his late 40s or early 50s was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital in stable condition. High-powered fans were used to ventilate lingering smoke from the home. Ottawa Victim Services was called to assist residents displaced by the fire.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause and origin of the blaze, though firefighters managed to contain the flames to the area of origin, preventing further damage to the home and nearby structures.
