Toronto police are seeking witnesses after a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer in North York on Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the area of Steeles Avenue West and Petrolia Road, near Keele Street, at about 9:20 a.m. A tractor-trailer travelling north on Petrolia Road was approaching Steeles when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing Steeles on the east side of the intersection.
The pedestrian, a 30-year-old man, was taken to hospital with critical injuries and later died. His identity has not been released as police work to notify family members.
The truck driver stayed at the scene, and investigators say it is too soon to determine whether charges will be laid. Collision reconstruction officers attended the site, and police are reviewing nearby security camera footage.
Eastbound lanes of Steeles Avenue were temporarily closed at Petrolia Road during the investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to contact Traffic Services or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
