A single-vehicle collision in Toronto left a man in hospital and caused major disruptions after a hydro pole was struck and brought down on Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the area near Rees Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West around 9:25 a.m. after a vehicle hit a guardrail and then collided with a hydro pole, sparking a small fire.
Paramedics transported the male driver to hospital in stable condition. Police confirmed the impact toppled the pole, scattering debris and downing live wires across the roadway.
Firefighters extinguished the flames and secured the scene while hydro crews were dispatched to handle the damaged infrastructure. The crash forced the closure of westbound Lake Shore Boulevard West, with no timeline provided for reopening.
Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the driver losing control.
