A 28-year-old Mississauga man is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle into two Hamilton police cruisers and fleeing from officers.

Hamilton police were called to Elodia Court early Sunday morning after a witness reported a suspicious vehicle parked on the street with its lights off. Officers determined the grey Honda had been reported stolen by Peel Regional Police.

According to investigators, the driver rammed one police cruiser when officers approached the vehicle and then struck a second cruiser while attempting to escape. Both police vehicles sustained significant damage and were rendered inoperable.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was arrested a short distance away. Police allege he resisted arrest and refused to identify himself.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers reportedly discovered a loaded Glock handgun on the front passenger seat.

Sammy Shaik, 28, of Mississauga, has been charged with several offences, including possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited weapon, disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property valued over $5,000.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
