A 23-year-old woman from Mississauga is facing impaired driving charges after crashing into an OPP cruiser early Sunday morning in Oro-Medonte. The collision occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on Highway 11 northbound near Line 1, where an officer was conducting traffic control from inside their parked cruiser.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver was arrested at the scene and brought to the Orillia OPP detachment for further testing. She has been charged with impaired operation due to alcohol and drugs, as well as driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
As a result, her licence has been suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle impounded for seven. She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The crash shut down the northbound lanes of Highway 11 for several hours while the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation Unit conducted an on-scene investigation. The road has since reopened. Police are asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact the Orillia OPP.
