A serious collision involving a motorcycle shut down part of Highway 7/8 in Kitchener on Thursday evening.
Ontario Provincial Police say a 28-year-old rider from Brampton was travelling eastbound on the highway near Courtland Avenue around 5 p.m. when their sports motorcycle struck the rear of a Mercedes SUV.
The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the SUV was not physically harmed.
The crash prompted a closure of a section of the highway near Homer Watson Boulevard while investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway. Police indicated the area was expected to remain closed until around 11 p.m.
