A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan brought traffic to a standstill in Oakville on Tuesday night.

Halton police and emergency crews were called to Dundas Street East near Eighth Line around 6:45 p.m. after a collision was reported at the intersection. The motorcyclist was critically injured and later pronounced dead.

Police say their initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was travelling quickly through the intersection when it collided with a silver sedan that was turning. Investigators are examining speed as a possible factor while continuing to determine exactly how the crash occurred.

The sedan driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Dundas Street East was temporarily shut down in both directions from Postridge Drive to Eighth Line as police collision reconstruction officers assessed the scene. The road has since reopened to traffic.
