A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a moose near Chalk River early Wednesday morning, according to the Ontario Provincial Police. The collision occurred just after 5 a.m. on Highway 17, between Chalk River and Petawawa.
The rider sustained serious injuries and was first taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to an Ottawa hospital by Ornge. The moose, which was also injured in the incident, had to be euthanized at the scene.
The highway, located about 140 kilometers northwest of Ottawa, was temporarily closed for the investigation but reopened by 7:45 a.m.
