A serious crash involving a motorcycle and two SUVs occurred Wednesday night in Barrie’s west end. The incident took place on Ferndale Drive North around 8:23 p.m., prompting a road closure between Edgehill Drive and Benson Drive that lasted until 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, the motorcycle was heading north when it clipped the rear of a northbound SUV, causing it to swerve into the southbound lanes and collide with another SUV. The impact threw the motorcyclist from the bike, while the second SUV veered off and struck a hydro pole. The motorcycle caught fire upon impact, igniting nearby dry grass, which firefighters quickly extinguished.

All seven occupants of the SUVs were unharmed. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, was initially treated at a local hospital, and later airlifted to a trauma centre in the Toronto area.

No charges have been laid at this time. Barrie Police are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact Detective Constable Hueson of the Traffic Unit.
