A 35-year-old Arnstein man is facing several charges after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 522 reportedly led to a confrontation with paramedics.
Ontario Provincial Police, Parry Sound District Paramedic Services and the Argyle Fire Department responded to a crash near Olivers Road around 5:10 p.m. on Aug. 14. Police said the driver was suspected of being impaired.
Paramedics arrived before officers and began taking the driver to hospital for medical assessment. During the trip, police allege he became combative, threatened emergency workers, damaged equipment and threw an object at a paramedic.
Police arrested the man and took him to a local hospital, where additional testing was conducted.
He faces charges including assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, mischief, dangerous operation of a vehicle and two impaired-driving offences, including driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused remained in custody pending a bail hearing in North Bay.
