A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital after a train struck a vehicle near Fallowfield Station in Barrhaven Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the rail crossing at Fallowfield Road and Woodroffe Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters found the vehicle heavily damaged and pushed several dozen feet into a nearby bush.
One person was trapped inside the vehicle and was safely removed by firefighters within about five minutes. Paramedics transported the woman to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
No injuries were reported among the train’s passengers or crew.
Ottawa police say the railway crossing signals were confirmed to be functioning properly at the time of the collision. The Transportation Safety Board has been notified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
