Ottawa firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire in the Glebe neighborhood on Saturday evening that severely damaged multiple homes and displaced nearly a dozen residents. The fire was reported around 10:37 p.m. when several 911 callers reported visible smoke and flames affecting a single-family home on the 100 block of Fourth Avenue, near Lyon Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames engulfing four semi-detached homes, a large tree, a garage with a vehicle, and several outdoor decks. The situation quickly escalated, prompting the activation of a second and third alarm.

Crews worked aggressively to control the blaze while dealing with several hazards, including live hydro lines. Firefighters conducted extensive operations, including pulling down ceilings, cutting roof holes, and opening walls to ensure all fire was extinguished. Fortunately, no residents were found trapped inside during the search.

Ottawa Paramedic Service responded with multiple teams, transporting a woman in her 60s to the hospital in stable condition. By 11:10 p.m., the fire was under control. Victim Services was called in to assist eight adults and two children displaced by the fire.

Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nick Defazio praised the quick response, noting that crews arrived within two minutes, preventing the fire from spreading further. “This was a really serious fire that could have spread really quickly,” he said, highlighting the proximity of the homes.

The fire is believed to have started in a garage, but the cause is still under investigation. Authorities have ruled out foul play.
