A fire at a triplex in Kitchener prompted a large emergency response Monday afternoon and displaced multiple residents.
The Kitchener Fire Department sent seven trucks to the scene on Guelph Street around 2:30 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the attic. The blaze caused structural damage to the roof rafters, though officials say it is not considered suspicious.
Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $100,000. Eight people living in the home were forced to leave, and the city has arranged support for those affected. One resident was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Waterloo Regional Police Service assisted at the scene, closing nearby roads including Weber Street West at Guelph Street. All roadways were reopened by about 5 p.m.
