Eight people, including an Ontario Provincial Police officer, were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle collision in Kawartha Lakes Friday afternoon.
The Special Investigations Unit said the crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Highway 35 near Somerville 3rd Concession and Royal Cedar Road.
According to the SIU, an OPP officer was travelling southbound when a collision occurred involving a southbound Honda CR-V and a northbound Hyundai Palisade.
Those taken to hospital included the officer, a 23-year-old woman from the CR-V, and six occupants of the Hyundai: an 82-year-old man, three women aged 76, 72 and 45, a 48-year-old man, and a male youth. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.
The SIU has invoked its mandate and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
