Patients were evacuated from a ward at Bluewater Health on Wednesday evening after a fire broke out in one of the rooms.
Hospital staff managed to put out the fire before emergency crews arrived around 7 p.m., according to Sarnia’s chief fire prevention officer. Firefighters from four stations responded to the call.
Three nurses and one patient were treated for smoke exposure and later released. Thanks to the quick actions of hospital staff, the fire was contained to a single room and injuries were limited.
The extent of the damage has not yet been determined. Officials are still investigating the cause, and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been informed.
