Ontario Provincial Police have charged an 18-year-old driver after a patrol cruiser was rear-ended during a roadside incident in Ottawa early Sunday morning.
Police were responding to a collision on Highway 417 near Metcalfe Street around 2:30 a.m. when an officer noticed a vehicle approaching rapidly in the same lane. The officer and a civilian moved into the police cruiser moments before it was struck from behind. No injuries were reported.
The young driver is facing multiple charges, including impaired operation involving alcohol and drugs, dangerous driving, driving with a blood-alcohol level above zero as a young person, failing to move over for an emergency vehicle, and having an unsealed container of liquor.
Police suspended the driver’s licence for 90 days and impounded the vehicle. A court appearance is scheduled for a later date.
