A smoky fire broke out early Monday morning at a shopping plaza in downtown Ajax, but no injuries were reported.
The blaze occurred at Harwood Plaza just south of Highway 401. The Town of Ajax says fire crews responded to a call around 2 a.m. near 170 Commercial Ave., where Ajax Textile Corp. is located. Durham Regional Police said officers arrived shortly before 1:45 a.m. and found an industrial building with heavy smoke.
Police assisted with traffic control while fire crews worked to bring the situation under control. The Town of Ajax confirmed the scene is now contained and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Officials did not say whether the incident is being treated as criminal.
