Barrie fire crews responded to a house fire in the city’s south end on Sunday afternoon, which could have had more severe consequences.

The fire broke out at a home on Fenchurch Manor near Priscillia’s Place. Due to uncertainty about the scale of the situation, a large response was mounted initially.

Fortunately, it turned out to be a small fire that caused smoke damage to the second floor. Firefighters took standard precautions, including ventilating the roof. No injuries were reported, and the home was later returned to the owner.

The cause of the fire and the total damage estimate are still under investigation.
