Fire crews responded to a residential blaze in Kitchener Tuesday morning after smoke alarms and emergency sirens alerted residents in the area.

The fire was contained to a second-floor bedroom of a semi-detached home on Roberts Crescent, near Strasburg Road and Ottawa Street South. Officials estimate the damage at about $100,000, noting there were no structural issues and no impact to the adjoining unit.

The two occupants escaped safely and were not injured, with working smoke alarms credited for the timely evacuation. While the home itself remains standing, the residents will be unable to return until repairs to the damaged room are completed.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, and authorities say it is not considered suspicious.
