Emergency responders are looking into the cause of a fire that broke out Thursday morning at a downtown shelter near Cabbagetown.

The alarm was raised shortly after 8:25 a.m. in the Sherbourne and Carlton area. Residents were evacuated as firefighters reached the scene. Crews confirmed the fire occurred at Adams House, a shelter located at 430 Sherbourne Street, and that they were able to bring it under control quickly.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters remain on site as they complete final checks.

Because of the incident, Sherbourne Street is closed between Carlton Street and Wellesley Avenue. Authorities are urging drivers to steer clear of the area and use alternate routes.
