Northbound Highway 400 was temporarily shut down late Tuesday after a transport truck fire near the 6th Line in Innisfil. The incident occurred shortly before midnight, when the driver managed to detach the trailer as the tractor unit became engulfed in flames.
Fire crews closed the highway after water and foam used to extinguish the fire caused dangerous icy conditions across the lanes. No injuries were reported. Road crews applied salt and a heavy tow truck removed the damaged vehicle.
The roadway reopened just after midnight and was turned over to provincial police, who continue to investigate the cause. Additional cleanup along the right shoulder was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
