A 34-year-old man has been charged after an early morning fire at a townhouse complex in Kitchener caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.
Emergency crews responded around 6:30 a.m. Sunday to a multi-unit residential property on Courtland Avenue East following reports that a man had intentionally set a fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which was located in the exterior entrance area serving two townhouse units.
The affected units were vacant at the time, and neighbouring residents were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported, and officials say the building did not sustain structural damage.
Police later arrested the suspect. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Kitchener Fire Prevention have been notified as the investigation continues.
