A barn on a rural farm west of Ottawa was destroyed by fire Tuesday after flames spread rapidly from a tractor to surrounding structures.

Emergency crews were called just before 12:30 p.m. to Anderson Farm on Franktown Road near Dwyer Hill Road, initially responding to reports of a tractor fire. Ottawa Fire Services said the flames quickly spread from grass to a nearby barn.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by about 2 p.m., using a water shuttle system due to the absence of nearby hydrants. Crews remained on scene into the afternoon to fully extinguish hot spots and prevent rekindling.

No injuries were reported and all livestock were confirmed by officials to be safe.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
