Fire crews in Toronto are battling a blaze at two connected high-rise buildings in Thorncliffe Park, months after a similar fire previously forced a large evacuation.

Officials say firefighters were called just after 11:30 a.m. Monday to the buildings at 11 Thorncliffe Park Drive and 21 Overlea Boulevard. The fire is believed to be burning insulation located within concrete wall sections, similar to the earlier incident that displaced hundreds of residents last year.

Residents have not been evacuated this time and are being told to shelter in place while air quality is continuously monitored for smoke and carbon monoxide. Authorities say conditions inside the buildings are currently considered safe.

Fire crews have contained the affected area and are working to fully extinguish the blaze, while investigators examine the cause. Officials also noted that mitigation work had previously been carried out after the earlier fire, including structural isolation of the impacted sections.

No injuries have been reported.
