A four-alarm fire at an industrial waste transfer station in Etobicoke has been extinguished after sending heavy smoke across the area and briefly reducing visibility on Highway 427 Tuesday morning.
Toronto Fire Services responded to the blaze near Disco Road and Highway 427 shortly before 3:45 a.m. The fire burned for several hours before crews brought it under control, with the alarm level raised from three to four due to the resources required.
Officials say no injuries have been reported, and the smoke has since cleared. The fire involved construction materials and insulation in a remote section of the facility, causing only limited damage to part of the roof.
The cause remains under investigation, though authorities do not currently consider the fire suspicious. Road closures around the site have since been lifted. The incident marks the second major fire at the same waste transfer station in less than a year.
