A two-storey home along the Rideau River in Manotick was destroyed by a fire Thursday evening. Multiple emergency calls came in around 5:45 p.m., reporting flames spreading from outside into the house on Bravar Drive.
Fire crews arrived to find the first floor fully engulfed and had to fight the blaze from outside, as the intensity made entry impossible. A second alarm was quickly called to bring in additional resources, particularly because the area lacks fire hydrants and nearby homes were at risk.
The fire was brought under control by 8:52 p.m., with further efforts late into the night to stabilize the property and prevent debris from threatening neighboring homes.
Paramedics responded, but no injuries were reported. One resident was home at the time of the fire.
Ottawa Fire Services confirmed the house is a total loss. A fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause.
