A major fire broke out at a large wooden workshop in rural Scarborough Thursday morning, prompting a significant response from Toronto Fire.

Crews were called to the area of Beare Road and Finch Avenue East at about 9:13 a.m. and found the structure completely engulfed in flames. Around 100 firefighters responded to the scene to battle the blaze. Nearby railway tracks led officials to notify CN Rail as a precaution.

Fire officials clarified that the burning structure is a large workshop, not a barn as initially reported. The building was empty at the time, and no people or animals were inside. However, several nearby vehicles were also damaged after the fire spread.

With no fire hydrants available in the rural area, tanker trucks from surrounding municipalities including Markham, Pickering, Ajax and Whitby were brought in to supply water. Firefighters set up temporary water pools and pumped water from them to fight the flames.

Paramedics say there have been no injuries. Fire crews are expected to remain on scene until the fire is fully extinguished, after which investigators will work to determine how the fire started.
