A school bus carrying 26 students was struck from behind by a commercial vehicle on Highway 17 in Spanish, Ontario, on Wednesday morning.

The collision occurred shortly after 8 a.m. while the bus was stopped with its warning lights activated and stop arm extended. Both the bus and the commercial vehicle were travelling eastbound when the crash happened.

No injuries were reported among the students, the bus driver, or the commercial vehicle driver.

Police have charged a 27-year-old Winnipeg man with careless driving and failing to stop for a school bus displaying its stop arm. He is scheduled to appear in court in Blind River on Aug. 18.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and while one lane of Highway 17 reopened shortly before 1:30 p.m., motorists were advised to expect ongoing traffic delays.
