A major townhouse fire in Vaughan early Thursday morning caused extensive damage but no injuries. The blaze began shortly before 3 a.m. on Stonebriar Drive, near Keele Street and McNaughton Road.

Police said nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and the fire was contained to a single unit. Vaughan Fire officials believe it started in the garage. The affected townhouse suffered significant structural and smoke damage, displacing two residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
