A late-night crash involving multiple vehicles is under investigation by the Waterloo Regional Police following an incident in Kitchener.

Emergency responders were dispatched around 11:10 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Fischer-Hallman Road and Victoria Street South. Police report that a Chrysler 300 had previously failed to stop for officers in Waterloo and was heading south on Fischer-Hallman Road at high speed when it ran a red light at Victoria Street South.

The Chrysler was hit by an eastbound Chevrolet, and the force of the collision pushed it into northbound traffic, where it struck several other vehicles.

Both the driver and a male passenger abandoned the Chrysler and ran from the scene. Officers later discovered multiple open alcohol containers inside the car.

No injuries were reported. The intersection remained closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected.
