A section of Highway 89 was temporarily closed Thursday morning after a multi-vehicle crash involving two pickup trucks.

Police say the collision happened around 7:30 a.m. between Harriston and Mount Forest when the trucks, travelling in opposite directions, sideswiped each other. One of the vehicles was pulling a flatbed trailer, which detached on impact and struck a police cruiser that had been conducting an unrelated traffic stop.

All vehicles involved, including the trailer and cruiser, sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.

The highway was shut down in both directions for a couple of hours before reopening around 9:30 a.m.
