Firefighters spent several hours battling a blaze in a building near the International Bridge on Friday, with the structure’s age making the operation more difficult.
Crews from Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were called to a property on Albert Street West at about 4:30 p.m. on March 13. In total, seven fire trucks and around 20 firefighters responded to the scene.
Officials and nearby residents confirmed that everyone inside the building was able to evacuate safely. However, the older construction of the structure created challenges for crews working to control the flames.
By 10:15 a.m. Saturday, one fire truck remained at the site, using its ladder to spray water onto the roof as crews continued monitoring the situation. No injuries were reported, and authorities have not yet provided information about what may have caused the fire or the extent of the damage.
