Firefighters in Ottawa responded to a blaze at a mixed-use building in Manotick on Sunday morning after multiple emergency calls reported smoke and flames just before 8 a.m. The structure, located on Manotick Main Street near Eastman Avenue, includes a business on the ground floor and a residence above.

Crews conducted two searches and confirmed no occupants were inside. Firefighters then used an aerial ladder to battle the fire from above while others worked inside to contain it. The fire was brought under control around 11:10 a.m.

Officials reported that a cat was found dead in the building. No people were injured, though paramedics were present at the scene. Two adults were displaced and received support from victim services.

Due to the building’s age and multiple renovations, the response took longer than usual. Police closed the surrounding roadway and advised the public to stay clear, while an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
