A barn at a large Holstein dairy farm in Essa was damaged by fire Friday evening.
New Tecumseth firefighters were called to the property on 5 Sideroad at about 6:05 p.m. and found flames coming from one of several barns. Fire crews from Essa and Adjala-Tosorontio were also brought in to assist.
Fire Chief Dan Heydon says crews launched an interior attack and contained the fire to one section of the barn, although flames reached the second floor and roof. The blaze was brought under control within about an hour.
Animals were moved to safety, and no injuries were reported. Fire crews have since cleared the scene.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown. The property owner is now working to restore milking operations.
