Firefighters from across Muskoka battled a major structure fire at a home in Gravenhurst over the weekend. The Gravenhurst Fire Department, assisted by crews from Bracebridge, was called to a blaze on Old Portage Road on Sunday.

All local stations were deployed after crews arrived to find the building fully involved, requiring a large-scale response and a tanker shuttle to supply water. No one was inside the home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Old Portage Road and Brydons Bay Road beyond Camp Shalom were closed for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene, and residents were asked to steer clear of the area. Fire officials said a reduced crew remained overnight to monitor hot spots and prevent flare-ups, noting that smoke and the smell of burning could linger into the night.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not yet been determined.
