A home in Ottawa’s Sandy Hill neighbourhood was heavily damaged by a fire that kept firefighters at the scene for several hours overnight Friday.
Crews were called to a single-family home on Wilbrod Street near Augusta Street around 10:24 p.m. after reports of smoke. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor and roof.
A search of the home found no occupants. Firefighters initially began tackling the blaze but were forced to evacuate the building shortly before 11 p.m. because of hazardous conditions.
The fire was brought under control at about 3:20 a.m., after which crews remained on site to monitor for possible flare-ups.
Paramedics were also called to the scene as a precaution but did not have to treat anyone. There were no reported injuries.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Ottawa Fire Services.
