Traffic has resumed along most of King Street in Toronto’s west end after a transport truck damaged overhead streetcar infrastructure during the morning commute.
The collision occurred shortly after 6:25 a.m. near the intersection of King Street West and Atlantic Avenue. Toronto Fire Services said the vehicle struck the streetcar wires, with smoke briefly visible from the overhead lines.
Electricity to the affected section was cut while crews from the Toronto Transit Commission assessed the damage and completed repairs.
Although no one was hurt, King Street was shut down in both directions between Atlantic Avenue and Shaw Street for several hours. The roadway has since largely reopened, with one eastbound lane still closed.
