GO Transit riders on the Lakeshore East line faced delays Thursday after a VIA Rail train collided with a sidewalk snowplow in Scarborough.

The incident occurred at about 1:40 p.m. on Scarborough Golf Club Road north of Kingston Road, near Guildwood Station. The train, carrying more than 200 passengers from Toronto to Ottawa, did not result in any reported injuries.

Via Rail said train 644 could be delayed three to four hours, with additional delays of 30 to 90 minutes expected for several other trains. Compensation is being offered under Via Rail policy.

Metrolinx confirmed that GO Transit service through the area would experience delays, modifications, and possible cancellations as emergency crews respond. Scarborough Golf Club Road was closed between Confederation Drive and Dale Avenue while authorities conducted their investigation.
