A basement fire that threatened neighbouring homes in Orléans was brought under control quickly Monday morning, with no injuries reported.

Ottawa Fire Services received several 911 calls shortly after 10:40 a.m. about a fire at a large home in the 600 block of Decoeur Drive. Callers reported seeing flames coming from the basement and extending through the sides of the house toward nearby properties.

Firefighters entered the home and attacked the blaze from inside. A search confirmed that no one was trapped in the residence.

The fire had moved from the basement into a side wall, prompting crews to use chainsaws to open the wall and reach concealed hot spots.

Firefighters had the blaze under control roughly 30 minutes after the first emergency calls and were able to stop it from spreading to neighbouring homes.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
