Fire crews in Ottawa spent nearly two hours battling a house fire near Kars on Sunday morning that forced residents from their home but resulted in no injuries.

Ottawa Fire Services say they were called to a residence on Rideau Valley Drive North near Roger Stevens Drive around 11:40 a.m. after reports that a television cabinet inside the home had caught fire.

When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy black smoke coming from the roof area and soffits of the single-family home. Due to the rural location and lack of nearby hydrants, crews had to rely on a water shuttle system to fight the blaze.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Ottawa paramedics confirmed that no injuries were reported. Ottawa Victim Services also attended to assist residents who were displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
