An electrical malfunction is believed to have caused a basement fire that resulted in an estimated $100,000 in damage to a Windsor home on Saturday.
Windsor Fire and Rescue crews responded to a two-storey residence in the 2200 block of Pelissier Street after receiving reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and immediately began searching the basement, where the fire originated.
Emergency medical services and Windsor police also attended the scene as crews worked to contain the blaze. After bringing the fire under control, firefighters ventilated the home and confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated.
A fire investigator later determined the blaze was caused by an electrical failure in the basement.
No injuries were reported, but two residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.
