A fire destroyed a two-storey garage and shed structure in Kitchener early Saturday morning, but the person inside managed to escape safely.
Emergency crews responded to the fire on Vanier Drive at about 4:40 a.m., with four fire trucks dispatched to the scene. According to the City of Kitchener, one individual was inside the building when the fire started but got out before firefighters arrived.
Paramedics checked the person for smoke inhalation, though they did not require hospitalization.
Officials say the fire is not considered suspicious. However, the structure suffered extensive damage and has been declared a total loss, with estimated damages around $150,000.
