Fire officials in Ridgetown are working to determine what sparked a house fire that levelled a home early Tuesday.
The blaze broke out around 3 a.m. on Ebenezer Street West, according to a release from the municipality. Crews with Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue were dispatched after multiple 911 callers reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the residence.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread quickly through the structure. As a safety measure, occupants of a neighbouring property were evacuated.
After an extended battle, crews brought the fire under control and remained on scene to extinguish lingering hot spots. Damage is estimated at approximately $500,000. No injuries were reported.
