A fire at a Guelph apartment building on Thursday evening displaced several residents but caused no injuries.

Fire crews from five stations responded to the blaze on Willow Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. Flames extended from a third-floor balcony and heavy black smoke billowed from the building.

According to Fire Chief Steven Goode, the fire was contained to a single apartment unit. However, two units located below sustained water damage during firefighting efforts.

About eight residents were forced to leave their homes as a result of the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
