One person was killed and another critically injured after a two-vehicle collision in southwest Ottawa early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Fallowfield Road near Old Richmond Road at about 12:45 a.m., where a Kia Sorento and a Honda CR-V had collided and caught fire. The vehicles were found roughly 25 metres apart.

Firefighters were unable to immediately search the Honda because it was fully engulfed. As crews battled the flames, they discovered a person in the front seat.

The driver of the Honda, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and paramedics.

The driver of the Kia, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene before reopening shortly after 11 a.m.
