A fatal three-vehicle crash involving two passenger vehicles and an ambulance occurred on Highway 15 near Lombardy on Friday evening, prompting a lengthy road closure.
Ontario Provincial Police reported that emergency crews responded to the collision between County Road 1 and County Road 5 at approximately 5 p.m. A 34-year-old resident of Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, who was driving one of the vehicles, died at the scene.
A 6-year-old boy travelling in the same vehicle was airlifted to hospital by Ornge. The ambulance involved in the crash was not transporting any patients at the time; however, both the driver and a passenger sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
The sole occupant of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment. Highway 15 remained closed for several hours during the investigation before reopening later in the day.
Update – In an update on June 2, police says the 6-year-old boy has succumbed to his injuries.
