One person has died and two others were hospitalized after a house fire in Peterborough early Wednesday morning, police say.

Emergency crews responded to a residential blaze near McDonnel Street and Park Street North around 3:30 a.m. Inside the home, they located a 27-year-old man who was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

Two additional occupants were also transported to hospital, though police have not provided details on the severity of their injuries.

Peterborough police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating to determine the cause of the fire. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
