Ottawa Fire Services reported a firefighter sustained a minor injury while responding to a house fire in Barrhaven on Sunday afternoon.
The fire broke out on North Harrow Drive around 4 p.m., after a neighbor heard alarms and called 9-1-1. Crews arrived to find smoke rising from the home. Two searches were conducted, but no one was found inside. The injured firefighter did not require hospitalization, and no other injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control by 4:21 p.m., and the cause is still under investigation.
This incident was one of three fires reported in Ottawa within a 24-hour period. Earlier on Sunday, multiple calls came in about a fire on the first floor of a townhouse on Catleaf Row in Orléans, which was under control within 20 minutes.
Another fire occurred Saturday night on Davidson’s Side Road near Shirley’s Bay, where flames were contained to the basement despite a lack of nearby fire hydrants. The fire was extinguished by 11:30 p.m., preventing further spread.
