A fire at Pembroke Regional Hospital on Sunday morning left one patient injured and prompted a swift evacuation of part of the facility.

Pembroke fire crews responded just before 8 a.m. after reports of smoke inside the hospital. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a single room, while hospital staff had already evacuated the affected floor.

Fire officials said the building’s sprinkler system helped contain the flames to one room, limiting damage to other areas. Crews quickly extinguished the fire.

One patient sustained burn injuries during the incident and was treated. No other injuries were reported.

Officials praised hospital staff for their quick response and adherence to emergency procedures, noting that their actions helped prevent more serious consequences. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
